UNITED KINGDOM AIRSPACE:
The airspace in the UK is divided into 2 Flight Information Regions (FIRs),London and Scottish. The Area ATC services are supplied by National Air Traffic Services from three Area Control Centers at London (LATCC),Prestwick (SCATCC) and Manchester.Traffic in the London FIR is controlled from LATCC and Manchester, and traffic in the Scottish FIR and Oceanic traffic in the Shanwick Oceanic Control Area is controlled from SCATCC.
This map shows the Airways and major Control Areas that comprise Controlled Airspace here in the UK.
The map does not show all the airways in the UK, only the major arterial routes. There are around 200 lower and upper air routes in UK airspace. The busiest parts are the Daventry Control Area, Worthing Control Area, the Airways East of London - R1,R123,R77,R12,B29,UM604 in the Clacton area, G1 around Dover and of course the London TMA. Of course it should also be pointed out all airspace is controlled above FL245, there are literally hundreds of upper air routes criss-crossing UK airspace not shown above.
To the West of the London FIR air traffic is controlled by Dublin and Shannon ACCs. To the South it is controlled by Brest and Paris ACCs in France, and to the South East by Brussels and Amsterdam ACCs. To the North East we link with Copenhagen ACC, and to the East over most of Continental Europe aircraft in the Upper air are controlled by Eurocontrol at the Maastricht ACC. Note: Maastricht does not control any air traffic in UK airspace.
In the UK,all Airways are Class A airspace,as are the London and Manchester TMAs.VFR flight is not permitted in Class A airspace.Class B airspace exists above FL245,in the Upper Air.There is no Class C airspace in the UK.Most airports Control Areas and Control Zones are Class D airspace.Class E airspace lies in some parts of the Scottish TMA.Class F Advisory Airspace exists on a number of Advisory Routes within both FIRs.And the rest of the airspace is Class G,the Open FIR.
