New Patches From FScene

Posted: Friday, November 28, 2008 - 14:57
Ruud Faber from FScene has annouced the release of two new patches . Ruud says,"On approach many airfields in FSX really disturb the feeling of realism becasue of the 'sandy appearance' of the areas around the runways. In some cases even the runways themselves look like strips of beach that are totally out of place. So,listening to the request of an enthuastic fan in the forum, I have adapted the colors of all related ground textures to the FScene palet. As a result you can download 2 free patches at www.fscene.com, one for the runways and one for the airfield grounds. They actually increase the challenge of navigating to (and spotting) the airfields. Just as in real life."

FScene Total Pack Available

Posted: Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 16:06
FScene has been twelve and a half years of continuous work by Ruud Faber. FScene is valued worldwide by many flight simulation enthusiasts and has won many Flight Simulations Awards. Ruud – being a professional aquarelle painter – started the project in 1996 with his first set of replacement ground textures for Europe, and soon other continents followed. All these years, development never stopped following the exciting developments in the FS world, every new version of Flight Simulator requiring adapted and new texture versions. FScene has provided thousands and thousands of replacements for Flight Simulator`s default ground textures, for all over the world and for every season. The program is replacing most ground-textures with new texture files, which are specially designed to match the characteristics of the landscape on the different continents even better than the default ones do. Additionally, a special drawing technique applied to the textures gives them almost the impression of being three-dimensional. No matter if you fly over cities, springtime meadows, snowy Alps, summer islands, or rainforests, they will turn every flight into an optical experience of enhanced realism. The complete work for FS9 / FSX is now available in a combined package, the FScene - Total Pack.

The missions were built using a new tool made by Jim Keir and are scheduled to be released by FSAddon Publishing in the near future. For now though, you can get this individual mission free! Visit the FSCene site to get your free copy of this hard winter mission.

Free Holiday Present From FScene

Posted: Monday, December 24, 2007 - 15:17
To-day FScene.com released a very interesting mission for FSX. Actually it's a Fun Mission for the 2007 Holidays. It plays in early Winter.

Ruud Faber describes it as follows: "Urgent mission from a Navy Airport; The weather is bad; All flights have been cancelled; You (experienced pilot) just arrived from London at Navy Airport de Kooy - Netherlands for a special mission."

The co-pilot briefs you on the purpose of this special flight. He's a Dutch airforce captain you know for years already. This airport has been officially closed some years ago. It's only available for special Navy flights. There's no ATC from the tower. A Marine talks you in and out via his cellphone. There's not much to rely on this afternoon. The mission is not easy to play, but flying it over and over you'll grow to become a great Cessna Pilot. Don't give up too soon! You can download it for free at the FScene website.

Ruud Faber of FScene Design Network informs us that they have released their first product. He reports, "Our first title "Central Florida GA Airfields, Volume 1" is an enhancement to a whole range of small Florida airfields that were left completely barren in FSX. The developer Joe Watson has added 'life' to the fields by placing many objects, as one would find in real life."

"Volumes 2, 3 and 4 are already waiting at the sideline to be packaged and will become available in the coming weeks." For more information, visit the FScene Design Network.

Posted: Friday, November 16, 2007 - 13:12

The FScene program replaces thousands of ground-textures with new texture files specially designed to match the characteristics of the landscape on the different continents. A special drawing technique applied to the textures gives them almost the impression of being three-dimensional.

Outskirts-Patch for FScene4X-Fall

Posted: Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 17:05
Ruud Faber of FScene reports, "Many Fscene users already adopted the new FScene4X replacement ground textures for Microsoft's Flight Simulator X (FSX). In our former press release of Aug. 24 we explained not only why this is an interesting option but also about our continuous work on improving the flightsimmer's joy in using FScene4X for FSX. Some repeats of former statements are in place here, thus giving new users some overview on what's going on.

1) FScene has reworked all the textures to make them better suited in FSX. Why? Because of the many changes in Microsoft's new FSX, the use of previous FScene versions was very disappointing. Ugly "gaps" appeared in the terrain, due to many FSX textures not being replaced by FScene ones. Moreover the difference in color between FSX and FScene showed very prominently. And after having released revised texture files for almost all world we reported the birth of the free Outskirts patches.
2) FScene announces a new pack of color-adapted textures which will enhance the pleasure of using world-wide FScene4X in FSX. This is why: When using FScene4X, we found the color mixing of cities vs. outskirts not quite satisfying. Especially in Spring and Summer. So we adapted the colors of several outskirt textures to fit the specific FScene gamma. By outskirts, we mean the urban rural fringe, also described as the "landscape interface between town and country".

This Outskirts Patch for the present FALL season is Free. Head on over to the FScene website Land at and look for the free Outskirts Patches.

Free Update For FScene4X Users
