3Dfx Voodoo2 07 Jul 1998
Gamespot has a big roundup of Voodoo2 cards. Hasten thereto if you are in the market and can't pick which one. The conclusion, for those who can't wait: they're all about the same.
There are some very cool new Voodoo2 drivers over at Creative, the new Direct3D drivers (v2.17, the version going in DirectX6), and the first version of Glide 3.0! They are beta versions, so don't blame me (or Creative). I just tested them on my Voodoo2, and found no difference in performance. There is, however, an interesting little button in the Advanced options: "Anti-aliasing on/off".
HW have an article named "To Voodoo2 or not to Voodo2"
Riva Rave people compared the Voodoo2 with the Riva128, here:
It's hard to ignore. The constant bickering between owners of different 3D cards as to which one is better is unavoidable. Even the 3D chip companies do it, although in more subtle ways. The words "can't we all just get along" come to mind. If we can learn to work together, we can make our virtual world a better place. Ok, maybe that's being a bit idealistic but I know one thing: The Riva and a Voodoo 2 do work well together and make your computer a better place.

From the newsgroups:
It seems that people have varying opinions when it comes to the subject of the Voodoo 2's onboard triangle setup. I've heard everything: that it is already being used, that new drivers are needed, and that a Quake mini GL driver is needed to allow it to work in Quake. Is it being used now? If not, do we have any opinions on its impact?
Tony Tamasi (3Dfx)
responds: Voodoo2 incorporates full floating point triangle setup with support for strips and fans in hardware. The current drivers support this functionality with the exception that strips and fans support will not be implemented in Glide until Glide 3 which is mid-year. However, the triangle setup unit is being used in the current drivers, and this is transparent to applications above, so applications (games) are getting benefits from full triangle setup today. Voodoo2 is less processor dependent than Voodoo Graphics due to this (among other things), however, that does NOT mean that Voodoo2 will run games at the same frame rates regardless of the CPU. (ie. a PentiumII @ 300 Mhz will get higher frame rates in Quake2 than a Pentium 200MMX onVoodoo2) It does mean that Voodoo2 will be faster than Voodoo Graphics on the same CPU. (Voodoo2 on a Pentium 200MMX will get higher frame rates than a Voodoo Graphics on a Pentium 200 MMX)
