Welcome to Hellenic vACC New Member's Section.

In this section we will inform you of how you can become a member of Hellenic vACC and what can you expect by becoming an HvACC member.

[ Firstly, allow us to inform you of what exactly Hellenic vACC is... ]

HvACC is a subdivision of an organisation (VATSIM) that provides -without ANY cost- the possibility to its members to simulate virtual Air Traffic Control to virtual Pilots. As a member of HvACC you can become either a virtual (real time) pilot or a virtual (real time) controller or both.

The programs you need to have are totally free (except of course of the Flight Simulator) and are needed in order to allow both virtual pilots and controllers be connected in a network of servers and allow all users "see" each other.

Hellenic vACC provides Services within Greece and its aim is :

  • to assist any new pilot or controller to enhance his/her hobby (online flying/controlling) by arranging events (eg International virtual flights)
  • to provide training to new pilots and controllers.
  • to simulate the real world procedures and make our hobby "as real as it gets"
  • to make all of its members have a great time within Greek (and not only) airspace

[ You need an ID ]

As mentioned above you can either join HvACC as a pilot or as a pilot and controller. In order for us to be able to enhance and organise even more our hobby you will need to fill-in the application form found in the "Become a member" section.

In the application form you will have to give us your VATSIM ID. This ID is given freely (with a password) by VATSIM and you will need it also in order to connect to VATSIM network either as a pilot or as controller.

Apart from your VATSIM ID you will have also to choose between join us as a pilot ONLY or also as a controller.

[ Pilot or Controller? ]

Joining as a Pilot ONLY means that you want to make online flights within VATSIM network together with the rest of online pilots and get Air Traffic Control services by virtual controllers.

HvACC Pilots Team has 4 squadrons (O,A,B,C).

When you enter HvACC Pilots Team your status in the Pilots Roster automatically becomes SQUADRON "O". According to the IFR (flying on instruments) and R/T (radiotelephony) experience you have, you will be tranferred (through simple checkrides) to the squadron of your choice. The Pilots Team Training Department wil be responsible for informing you on how can you upgrade your pilots rank and help you in every problem you will find ahead.

Passing checkrides or upgrading your pilots rank is not needed if you dont want to. It helps us though to organise group flights for each squadron according to the capabilities of each squadron and allows us to achieve a higher grade of training and realism of our simulation.

As a new pilot you get automatically subscribed to HvACC Pilots Team and also you become member of HvACC Pilots Mailing List. Within this list you will have the opportunity to talk with the rest of HvACC pilots.

Joining as Pilot AND Controller means that apart from being a virtual pilot and fly online as described above you also would like to get trained as a virtual Air Traffic Controller and provide Controlling Services to online pilots. HvACC has a highly trained Training Department of online Controllers, that has as main target to train new controllers and help them to familiarize themselves with the techniques and procedures of a real life controller.

Since the secret of becoming a good virtual controller is first to become an online pilot and be familiar with the difficulties an online flight has (lag, programs complexity etc). We believe that our controllers should first become online pilots (and belong at least to squadron "B") and then continue their training as controllers. For an experienced Flight Simulator pilot the whole procedure will be very easy and fast.

Your status when you firstly apply will be:

  • SQUADRON "O" as a pilot
  • Observer as a controller

Lastly, by joining both as a pilot and controller you get automatically subscribed to HvACC Pilots Team Mailing List and HvACC Controllers Team Mailing List.

[ Obligations of an Air Traffic Controller ]
Many things are changing daily in the virtual ATC, as in the real life. For this, it is very critical to have our controllers updated, in order for them to be able to participate in our activities with success. What we are doing is not our profession, it is our hobby. So, we have to participate with some minimum standards, because in this way we will be able to offer high level Air Traffic Control.

For the above mentioned reasons Hellenic vACC has established some rules for our Air Traffic Controllers, which are the following:

  • A Controller who has passed the written exam, for his next rating, and has not arranged his CPT (Controllers' Practical Test) because of his respnsibility, within 4 months after he has passed the written test, is obliged to give again the written test. The old one will be deleted from the VATSIM's database.
  • A Controller who is inactive (no controlling hours) for a period of three continuous calendar months, cannot control within the Hellenic vACC and he/she will have to pass an over the shoulder check, by a Trainer of the Hellenic vACC. After that he will be again in active status. The request for the over the shoulder check has to be initiated by the inactive controller, with a request which will be sent from him to the Training Director of the Hellenic vACC. Our Training Department will get in contact with all the controllers that will be in the inactive status so to inform the controllers for this procedure.
  • A Controller who is inactive (no controlling hours) for a period of three continuous calendar months, will be deleted from the Controllers' mailing list (hvacc_controllers_team) and will be invited again to participate in this list only if he will pass his over the shoulder check (see previous paragraph).
