Cross Country VFR Routes from Larnaka Intl to Paphos Intlaca International Airport
NOTE: All light aircraft have to be parked in the light aircraft apron before connection
CAA Aviation Law prohibits light aviation operations ( Flight Schools) in International Airports. Larnaca and Paphos are exceptions because are the only airports on the island. A new light aviation airport will open, Tseri. Until then Light aviation will be accepted in LCLK and LCPH.
Akrotiri Military Base (LCRA) is an English operated base. Light aircraft operations are forbidden in the area except if a special request form is filled out from CAA. (Flight Plan) Of course commercial operations are forbidden except in distress.
Pilots flying VFR have to use special corridors named VFR routes. Those VFR routes are standard and do not change unless on request but it doesn't mean that its going to be approved. The pilot have to have Estimated Times of Arrival in each VFR waypoint. Those ETAs will be requested by the Tower, Approach or CTR. Furthermore, a Pilot HAVE to file a Flight Plan. The method of VFR navigation in Cyprus is "dead reckoning": Pilot flying heading corrected for the wind to fly constant Tracks, know his/her ground speed so he/she can find out his ETAs on ALL waypoints and of course his/her Destination.
As you know next to Larnaca Intl there is a salt lake. That salt lake act as a "hold" for the VFR traffic in case of IFR arrivals. For example controller may instruct a pilot to "orbit" over the salt lake because of traffic. If a pilot needs to go Night VFR from Larnaca to Paphos the Clearance is: XXXX After departure proceed over the salt lake Climb 4500ft, report reaching". The pilot has to orbit over the salt lake until he reaches 4500ft and when he/she reports 4500 ATC will give the Clearance to Continue with the X-Country.
Paphos doesnt have a salt lake. The pilots After departure remain (orbit) south of the airport (over the sea) and climb to 5500ft and then continue to the next VFR waypoint when instructed.
NOTE: Minimum Altitude for a Night VFR Flight is 4500ft AMSL
All VFR waypoints including headings are on the VFR Chart uploaded to the VFR Charts Section. Since at night you cant see landmarks Night VFR X-Country Pilots use "Dead Reckoning" and have as refernce the highway conecting Larnaka whith Paphos Airport. Night VFR is not recomended in Cyprus
