Questions:
7. Is there a downloadable version of all 8 lessons available ? I think they are terrific! 9. Is it possible to repaint aircraft not using 'Paint Shop Pro?' Answers:
1. I have this problem with the night textures being wavey as seen in the pic below. How can I fix this problem?
Ok. what this is showing is this. When you have an image and it starts out as a nice 24 bit image, we have 16 million colours to play with. When we convert this back to the 256 colour bitmap image it has to do something with all those colours. It converts them to the nearest one. When you only have 256 colours you have to compromise. You can reduce this effect by changing the options when you convert from 24 bit to 8 bit colour. You will need to experiment here to find what suits you. (back to top)
2. Every time I try to save my repaint in PSP its save it as a PSP file even though I havn't picked that. I have been trying to save my file as a Bitmap, is this the format to save it as? If not please tell me. You have to choose the save as option. From there select bitmap and you should be good to go from there. Remember that the only time you want to save as a bitmap is when you are wanting to try it out on your aircraft. At all other times saving to the default PSP format is what we want. (back to top)
3. I've downloaded your paint tutorial for 2000. Was going fine until it said view the layer palette? How? Cant find that anywhere Right click on the tool bar and you will see that the very bottom option is 'customize' You need to make sure that you have added the 'Toggle Layer Palette' Icon. It is the one with the red square behind the light blue square. As shown below. If you are still not sure how to do this, check out the 'Help' options in Paint Shop Pro. Now whenever you wish to view this palette you just click on the button.
4. I tried to repaint a 737 using fireworks 4.0 , it only lets you save it as a fireworks file. And when you try to load it in FS2000 it tells you "visual model could not be found" Could you please help me and tell me how I can save it using fireworks so it will work with FS2000. What you have to remember when using fireworks is that it is meant for creating website images, buttons etc. It thinks that you want to keep all images as a fireworks image unless you tell it otherwise. You need to make sure you open the original bitmap image in Fireworks. Then, when you have finished all your editing and saved it as a png file; for backup purposes and/or further editing, you then need to choose 'Export' in the file menu. It will then let you save the image as a bitmap. (back to top)
5. From trying to add text to a blank image I know if I click where the text is to go I can then specify font, size colour etc etc but on our text layer when I click where the text is roughly to go all I get is a message "This operation could not be completed because the current layer does not contain any active data within the current selection area" I was able to reproduce this error but I found it by chance. The clue here is the word "selection". If you have selected even a small area, with the selection tool, without knowing it then Paint Shop Pro assumes that that is were you want to edit, paint, add text, etc. If you get this error, go to the selection menu, choose 'select none' or just type 'CTRL + D'. 6. I have done the lines as per your instructions (I think) and placed them at the settings in the tutorial i.e. 55, 75, 127, 183 and 203 pixels from the left but when I try to fill them I fill the whole thing. If this happens to you then you need to zoom in real close and check that the lines you have drawn go all the way to the top and the bottom of the texture. Acting as barriers to stop the paint crossing over into other parts of the image. (back to top)
7. Is there a downloadable version of all 8 lessons available ? I think they are terrific! At the moment I have version 1.1 of my Paint Shop Pro tutorial as a PDF file. I am working towards getting all the tutorials in this format as long as there is a demand. (back to top)
8. How do you convert an *.af file into a bitmap image, there are a few helicopters I would like to repaint and I just don't know how to convert the textures into bitmaps. I have to still get that section done but can I suggest you visit my downloads page. You will find various converters and they all have instructions from the authors. I will get around to doing a converter page eventually. (back to top)
9. Is it possible to repaint aircraft not using 'Paint Shop Pro?' If you check out my website you will find a tutorial by Simon Jamie in which he uses Fireworks. You can really use any painting application as long as it allows you to manipulate the bitmap image and save it in it's original format. What I mean by this is that if you start off with a 256 x 256 x 256 colour bitmap you need to make sure your application can save it back in that format. (back to top) |
