2 quick questions guys :

Is 2400mhz c10 ram http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-(2x4gb)-corsair-ddr3-dominator-platinum-pc3-19200-(2400)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-10-12-12-31-dhx- better than 2133 c9? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/corsair-cmd8gx3m2b2133c9

Also which of these 2 mobos would be the best choice??

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-p8z77-v-pro-intel-z77-s-1155-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-d-sub-(vga)-displayport-dvi-i-hdmi-atx

or

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asrock-z77-extreme-6-intel-z77-s-1155-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dp-dvi-d-hdmi-atx

I read that the higher in the "extreme" series the better, anyone confirm this?

I am pretty sure i am going to go with a Z77.

Regards

Paul

Anyone?

ive decided to go with this

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asrock-z77-extreme-4-intel-z77-s-1155-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-sata-raid-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dvi-d-hdmi-a as it allows an o/c of up to 2800mhz for the ram

But what about the ram?, what would be the best - i know the tighter timing the better, but also the higher the clock the better, so whats better?

Thanks westman, i could only see 2400 there, but as 2666 is only 30 quid dearer then i am aswel;l getting that.

Much appreciated dude :)

I have decided on the 3570, as its for flight sim only and the i7 would be wasted on just this

Iam not sure you need the GHZ and the 3770k clocks better , better binned and what a seen is that the 3570 clocks

not as good and a risk to get a bad or very bad CPU on the chip lotteria is bigger.

I was just about to ask aswell, if the 3570k would run this fast.

Ok so the 3770k it is!!

looking at the ram you linked, it says "xmp" does that mean "xmp" has to be enabled? just i am sure i seen something where "xmp" has to be disabled, or am i incorrect?

Thanks Hasse. :)

EDIT:

I also just noticed that Z77 is not listed

"Compatible with Intel X79, Z68 and P67 platforms"

Does this also mean i have to go Z68 instead of the Z77?

Its compatible to Z77 and Z68 is for SB not IB, i not run a Asrock Mobo dont no that bios but mine Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H

have bios settings up to 3000mhz .

Hi Hasse,

so if i update the bios on a Z77 it should take the 3770k I/B, am i correct?

Is this 2666Mhz ram overclockable?

Paul

You not need to uppdate bios for a 3770K on any Z77 board . but when you have it up and running a should uppdate to latest bios.

The ram is overclocable but the problem is always the memcontroller in the CPU most of the 3770K memcontroller do 2666mhz but

some of the bad chips do 2600 a good do 2800mhz and a really god chip +3000 , my mems do 2975mhz at 1.7v and its the memcontroller

that is the limiting factor.

I see, thanks.

just i see on some of the boards (for example):

DDR3 - 1066

DDR3 - 1333

DDR3 - 1600

DDR3 - 1866(OC)

DDR3 - 2133(OC)

DDR3 - 2400(OC)

Does the "OC" mean before or after overclocked http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asrock-z77-extreme-6-intel-z77-s-1155-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-pcie-30-(x16)-d-sub-dp-dvi-d-hdmi-atx- i seen some motherboards go up to 2800.

Thanks again

Paul

Intel have set a max ramspeed to 1600mhz on the IB chip.

when boot first time the ramspeed is 1600mhz deafault

then its only to change to xmp settings if remeber right think its some guide for it on the forum, i dont youse XMP settings.

a set the speed, timings, subtimings, ramvoltages my self in bios to get max out of the mems.

Sorry for the double post,

With regards to 2133/2400/2666 ram, i cant see any compatible boards that suit corsairs dominator ram, - certainly they dont appear to be on the qvl's.

What is his qvl all about? - i checked the asrock extreme4, the asrock extreme 6 and the p8Z77 pro and the fatal1ty performance.

there are only a few 2666/2400/2133 rams listed for each of these boards then i have to take into account whether it supports 2X4GB sticks etc etc.

So to sum it up, is this QVL important? does it matter when it comes to overclocking?

Regards

Paul

I realise you may think one should know this, but this is the type of tech info thats not included in Word Not Allowed's(great) and nickn's (also great) guides.

Thanks

Hi , i dont lock at the vendors QVL list , Ram is Ram , can be that the mems are new and they have not test them yet.

Its often better info fr.o.m. The memory vendor , Corsair say that the mems ar compatible with Z77.

For example My best set is without any numbers at all Engenering sample

Hi Hasse thanks again, just out of curiousity, with the 3770k, what is the difference between E1 and E0?
