overclocking cpu and ram

Recommended Posts

Currently my cpu is @ 4.7, and my ram is xmp enabled.

Is it better/faster to allow my ram to auto overclock when my cpu is manually overclocked or should I just leave it at its xmp profile? 10/12/12/31 2T  1:9 ratio - when my ram o/c'd it was @ 10-13-13-36 I cant remember what the ratio was but something tells me it was 3:36 1T (1:12) but I am sure the spped went down to something lik 667 instead of remaining at the 1200

Thanks

EDIT: here is a better description of the timings, than what I posted above: (see pic)

Start with MemTest86 bootable.

Check Memory Timing Control because XMP may have actually set you'r memory values on AUTO.

You may need more memory voltage or VCCIO

Retest each time you make a change.

Hi witch xmp profile do you run profile1 or profile 2 in bios.

Test witch one that is 2400 xmp , some mems can have 2 profiles

If you lave it at manual 2400 the timings normaly be looser and you

Must set timings yourself.

Hi guys,

ram profiles I ave default, profile 1(active) and profile 2

Ram multi is at 24 (my ram is 2400 10/12/12/31 by default anyway) and CPU-Z shows this is what my ram is actually running at

Dram timings is on "selectable" and on auto

CH A timings 10/12/12/31

CH B timings  10/12/12/31

Voltage is 1.65V

bios shows ram @2401.26

Memtest throws back no errors after 16 hours testing(done a few weeks ago)

If you want to test you can set selectable from auto to Quick ( change channel A and B )

Comand rate to 1 from deafault 2 ( Auto).Test to set cas latency to 9.

Run te memtest to be sure you have no errors .

It can need some more voltage 1.67-1.7 no problem for Ivy B .

If this work with your mems you get some more performance.

Hey Hasse thanks

I will give that all a shot :)

Should I keep my speed @2400?

Yes 2400 , only change to Quick then Open channel A do the changera there

You not need Open channel B when Quick it change booth A and B

Begin with comment rate and test that it works then the cas after that

Memtest

I cannot get command rate to stay at 1T

I did have a similar issue when it came to timings (as seen in overclock.net post)

Do I need to replace my cmos battery? I thought not, as then no o/c settings would save - right?

Hi Hasse,

I am using F14

memory tab is sitting @1067 with ratio 1:8 @1T  9/12/12/31

strangely I burnt memtest iso again(as I had it before but cant find it) now my drive wont see the iso( I keep getting the "hit any key to continue").

Don't worry about using your phone, I make a lot of typos when I use mine :)

I never reset coms or bat when i can enter into bios. Only when all is black.

You can save a profile in bios with your OC settings , if you must clear cmos

Load your saved profile .

It happens a lot more nasty things when you try to OC mems compared with

CPU overclocking.

What DRAM voltage Did you run ?

Its kind of Strange that the mems not can do comand rate 1

I manage to get my 2133 cl9 G-Skill kit to run 2600mhz cl 10 T1 on the ud5h.

Can you give all voltage settings from bios.

Bios 14 is a good one have that

DRAM is 1.65V

CPU is 1.3V

All others are on auto.

I have no chance of booting my 2400 at 2600(stock timings).

You are a hardcore overclocker -

My rig (at profile settings) is 100% stable(prime, IBT, with temps hitting 75-78 max), I just cannot get it stable no matter how much cpu V I throw at it, even 1.425V, but that is with all other voltages on auto.

Vtt and imc seems little low , i run vtt 1.185 , imc 1.18

Try raise it to 1.16 vtt , 1.155 imc

Or Begin lower i dont run the vtt lower than -0.5 v less than DRAM voltage.

Ex DRAM 1.65 -0.5 =1.15v Vtt and imc -0.005v less vtt

Hey Hasse,

Thanks for the help,

What exactly am I doing this for?

is it for a higher O/C?

to be able to lower my cmd rate of ram?

increase ram speed?

Or all of the above?

As ever, I appreciate your help dude. :)

Regards

Paul

Hey Hasse,

Pc would not boot regardless of where I put my Vtt.

(tried all 1.155 all the way to 1.18 with each attempt the IMC being 0.005 less than Vtt).

I was not keen on raising my DRAM to 1.7v

With regards to the timings - using heaven benchmark.

 9/12/12/31 1T  gave me 43.3 score with 43.3 FPS

10/12/12/31 1T gave me 43.5 score with 43.5 FPS

10/12/12/31 2T gave me exactly the same as 1T
