They can do nothing and people will complain that the sim is dead. Or they can do something and people will find a way to complain about it anyway.

Actually they just needed to set expectations better. If World Update wasn't billed as a major update in advance (or at least an update provided that it wasn't going to be) I'm sure the community would have been just fine - particularly with the revelation that the WT team were officially joining the dev team, and understanding that a lot of work probably went in to that in the background.

The other big issue is the sim-breaking performance drop that many are seeing following the update. I'm not part of the group affected, but the consistent and reproduceable symptoms point to something that should have been caught in use-case testing.

I recall them saying it was a 10 year project before release.  Wish I could find the video again, but it was a Q&A video with the Asobo team before the release of the game.

I took that to mean they would not abandon it for 10 years, not that it would take them 10 years to get it to the current level of available flight simulation.  Current level of available flight simulation in my staetment obviously refers to/ includes addon products, which I consider to be much different than mods.  But the list of missing or delinquent aspects right now is long.  Avionics (like RXP for example), nav data, flight modeling/characteristics, ATC, ATIS/AWOS, weather, cloud types and textures (vs products like REX in other sims), contrails, gooey airports, tightly restricted and controlled SDK, and more.  It lacks some elements that were better implemented in 2006.

I have all of those for FSX SE and more, and the most recent addon I own is vintage 2017.  As a result my MSFS logged hours year to day account for scant 30% of my total hours logged.  I want it to go higher.  Much higher due to what it does currently provide.  But it is falling significantly short.

Thanks for the video.  Yeah, this was the developer Q&A where Asobo said it was a 10 year project before the release of the game. So at least with what Asobo said about the 10 year timeline, it has been consistent from before release and after release.

The 10-year concept was about growing the sim with new contents  (like with the World Updates) not about for us to wait 10 years to have it working as advertised 🤣 .
