Install order when doing updates by module

Hat tip to @Rob_Ainscough for this one.  The order you run the new (v5.2) .msi files is important--and has changed--when updating to v5.2:

LM responded.  It appears they moved many files out of Content (Install_Content.msi) into Client (Install_Client.msi).  So if you execute the standard process of updating in this order:

1. Install_Client.msi
2. Install_Content.msi
3. Install_Scenery.msi

then you'll end up with missing files and hence black textures.  To recover from this, you'll need to run the Install_Client.msi again.  So the new sequence to use is:

1. Install_Content.msi
2. Install_Client.msi
3. Install_Scenery.msi

If you do install these 3, how could you miss any file?

Isn't the change rather affecting those wanting to just install the client instead, and in this case, they'd need to install both content and client (and in this order)?

I've just tried to run Install_Content.msi but a message appears saying "Content requires P3Dv5 to be installed".

I'm going to install Client, Content, Client (again, using Repair option) and Scenery in that order.

Absolutely. That's the only way that it will work, if indeed it is necessary. I am not sure that I follow the logic of the original suggestion. If files have been moved from Content to Client as is suggested and both modules are installed, regardless of the order, all files should be present, as stated by Jean-Luc above. I would think also that there must be a "downloaded after" date, as my copy does not exhibit the behaviour seen by Mr Ainscough.

In any case, as you state, the suggested method is impossible to use.

The only point I can add is that using the original install order, I had no ShaderSHL(sp?) folder, I picked up that folder by reinstalling Client

OK, since there seems to be a cloud of doubt around this one, I've unpinned it.

In my case, I've uninstalled older client and installed newest. Then I've uninstalled content and installed newest. Finally I've done the same with scenery.

I don't seem to be missing any but it is hard to exhaustively search for missing files as well.
