Weather Updates from Asobo?

Recommended Posts

I have used MSFS live weather with very good reliability since the SU7 after fix.  But this morning it was AWOL.  USA east coast.  Even a check of the Metar in MSFS showed "no metar found".   Took off at around 1500Z.  Used my fall back of REX WF, which was pretty spot on.  I had a 3.4 hour flight west from Maryland to Indiana and switched back and forth about three or four times from REX W to MSFS and back.  No joy with MSFS live.  Was on the ground in Indiana for about 45 minutes before refueling and taking off for St Louis.  Again, no live MSFS live weather.

With REX WF, today, the only issue I encountered was two sudden weather shifts.  Those two in a bit over five hours of flight time.

I just loaded MSFS again in Maryland a few minutes ago and MSFS live weather was back.

It's again down here. No metar available at LSGG. Cloudless sky, 15 degrees and QNH 1013.

It's off for roughly an hour a day.  The team has said this is being addressed now so this won't be foreever and if you just stay with it, or flip to pre-set then back, it's normally not long before it automatically connects to active live weather.

Hi Noel. It was off for several hours today in some regions and not at the oft reported usual daily time.  Thank you but today was unique!

I would like them to implement stratus, and realistic visibility.

Sad thing is, not only did they used to have stratus type clouds before they broke, but they also used to have beautiful and varied cloud types. Thinner high stratus the were actually opaque, also lower stratus as well, that we could actually not see through.

BIG disappointment after SU3. They dumbed the clouds way down for xbox or performance or whatever then the final dagger was trying to blend METAR.

The screenshots above are UGLY as all heck (just a bunch of cumulus cloud puffs everywhere). Totally breaks immersion. I am referring to this post:

No true overcast anymore.

Needs fixes.

Live weather is FUBAR since SU7. Clouds have been trashed since SU5.

Those pushing the cloudscape photos, do you not see how they all look the same?

All the time a generic mishmash of cumulus and cirrus with snow and fog popping in and out. METAR says OVC, MSFS says "I don't understand".

It's not "going in the right direction" or "working really well" which I see so many times repeated. Standards have either fallen drastically or some form of compensation is going around for saying these things.

Get the weather back to being awesome Asobo, please I beg.

I’m not seeing any difference in the clouds from before SU7. Find screenshots.

This is what happens during all my flights after approx 350 miles from the port of origin. All weather stops, even the ground textures turn to default. It is a straight line where the coulds are cut off and not soon after the airpressure returns to standard. Only haze remains. I have read some reporting the weather returns, but not in my case.....

Weather is no longer injected it seems.

Oh wow that sucks! And very strange. Makes me appreciate what I do have now even though it's not the weather we used to have.

I take you you have tried without any add-ons in your community folder?

Also, does this happen from any departure airport/area?

If clouds disappear and ground textures go generic, you are losing your online connection to the MSFS servers entirely. That is not the case on my system. There were definite server problems yesterday (Sunday January 30th) that apparently affected everybody, but that was corrected later in the afternoon. I did a 2.5 hour flight of over 1000 nm and had no streaming scenery dropouts or loss of live weather.

If it happens to you on every flight there is something going wrong with your specific installation - either in MSFS itself or something external, like your ISP throttling your connection after a certain period of time.

I simply don't understand this assertion that Asobo "broke" overcast.  I was challenged to try and find overcast without fog or precip on the official forum, and it took me a single try.

I've seen posts indicating that the weather isn't always rendered correctly (guess I've been lucky), but clearly the sim is still perfectly capable of rendering overcast.

Yes, I've seen overcast in the past few weeks, I just couldn't find it again to take a screenshot after I said it 🙂

Like Seb said, anyway, weather is constantly evolving. They are always tweaking on the server side. I think the engine itself is capable, but it's the data and interpretation on the server that causes issues (pretty sure he said that).

They are aware and always working on it.

I had problems yesterday and that was a server issue, which I found a workaround for on the MS Forum site. Other than that, Live weather has been spot on for weeks. I check with Metars when I fly, and it almost always agrees. Don't understand why some are having so many problems with it.

Yep, emptied the C folder, but no difference. Doesn't matter from which airport I take off, anywhere in the world.

This happens since the last SU. I have no problems with my ISP in any other instance.

Would you provide more information on the workaround, or a link to that forum discussion?  I believe many of us would benefit.
