A2A Cessna 172 and 182 rudder.

Recommended Posts

I have not used the two aircrafts after updating to 5.3 HF2. Today I tried å flight with the c172. At lift off, the aircraft turned hard to the left, and almost rolled over. I then tried the c182, with the same result. I have not experienced this in earlier versions of P3d, and I have checked both my flight yoke and rudder pedals, and they seem to be ok. With the Mooney I have no problems. Can anyone help?

I have not seen any issues with the A2A C172 in 5.3 HF2, you may want to confirm all your control axis assignments are correct including all connected control input devices like rudders pedals, joystick or yoke etc.

Perhaps a long shot but turn off the engine and open the A2A hangar and do a complete overall maybe something has been damaged and the aircraft files remember this.

Trim? Fuel or load balance? Flap setting or high enough rotation speed?

Check for multiple control assignments for rudder/ailerons.

I have now been testing the whole evening, but I have no answer. My rudder and yoke is ok and calibrated. No aircraft failures and no imbalance in weight. It is no problems with default and Carenado airplanes. But my two A2A Cessnas is impossible to fly in a normal way. I have tried takeoffs with and without flaps, but  no difference except the rolling distance. I have the trimwheel at the takeoff marking and the powersetting as in real life. For me it looks like the aircraft is stalling at lift off. If I increase the lift off speed to 60 knots for the 172 and 70 knots  for the 182, the roll is still there, but it is not as pronounced as with 55 and 60 knots. From my real  flying, I have never experienced this roll using recommended speeds and flaps setting. I have not been flying much with A2A Cessnas in v.5.3 but in earlier versions I have not experienced this. I will test more to morrow.

Is your A2A fleet updated?

Richard.

Interesting topic. I just bought the civilian P-51 from A2A and also have this strong rolling to the left. I have only good experiences with other A2A planes and will testfly tonight the C-172 and C-182. Autopilot like suggested by @newtie is also a possibility. I encountered this some times too. But yesterday I also tried other planes with no problems at all.

New testing to day. I have deleted both C172 and C182, and installed both again. Then I deleted my Honeycomb Bravo files, and reinstalled it. But still rolling to the left. I found that the fuel imbalance on the C182, can not be removed. I adjusted the fuel so it is the same amount in both tanks, but 10 sec later the imbalance is back.

I tested today too the 172 and 182. I had to center the rudder trim first with ctrl + +. It tends easily to rotate a bit due to torque. I disabled all realism settings in P3D. So I can easily cope with the small rotation using the rudder against it.

If fuel imbalances, check the tank selector. Since my P3D just crashed i can´t look at the 172 what it has. You always need to change from left to right but it should last for at least 10 min. before you get inbalances or even longer. So best selection if available is center or all tanks if available on this type.

I don’t have the 172 but I find the 182, Comanche, and Bonanza fly off nicely if I hold them down to the 80-90 mph range. Remember airspeed and altitude agl are interchangeable and savings in the bank in an emergency. Even on a short field take off you want to wait until your speed is up so you can climb rapidly over obstacles. Just saying maybe you’re lifting off to slow. The 182 is a pretty beefy airplane.

My experience, check elevator trim, be ready with right rudder to overcome the P-factor as soon as you lift off and be very gentle when you pull back on the elevator to avoid a sudden change in angle of attack. A bit of extra speed before you rotate also helps a lot of you have enough runway.

I have been flying both C172 and 182 in real life, and I have never experienced  this roll to the left. I have not had it in earlier versions of P3d either. That is why I  thought it was a bug in my sim, but after deleting both airplanes and throttle drivers, the roll is still there. I  think I will contact A2A Simulations support.
