Export LNV flight as .FLT for inflight MSFS loading

LNV exports the flight plan to MSFS 2020 as extension .PLN . The inflight MSFS loading of Flight Plans requires a plan with the extension .FLT . I have sent a request to Microsoft to permit an inflight load of the Flight Plan with the extension .FLT; but no reply so far.

Sooooooo... Is there a way to export the Flight Plan to MSFS 2020 with the extension .FLT?

NOTE: The loading or saving of Flight Plans via the MSFS 2020 "Globe" before flight start does permit both .PLN and .FLT, but that doesn't help me if I must restart the flight to get the results I want.

Do they use the same format as MSFS?

You can just change the file extension when saving MSFS from the file menu.
Or you can change the default flight plan pattern in the multiexport options dialog. Default is "PLANTYPE DEPARTNAME (DEPARTIDENT) to DESTNAME (DESTIDENT).pln"

Before the flight, while at the Globe, you can load or save as both.PLN and .FLT

The problem arises mostly when I change my flight plan, destination, approach etc. while enroute. I make the changes in LNV and export to MSFS2020. Then MSFS will only accept the flight plan as type .FLT and LNV will only export as type .PLN

A .pln is a different format and contains different data to a .flt. I haven't tried recently but at one time you could load a .pln mid-flight by giving the filename as *.* in the load dialogue. This then presents you with a list of all files (.pln and .flt) in the folder and you can select the correct one. However, whether the in-built ATC or the aircraft FMS recognises the new plan is a completely different matter.

Can you post the contents of one of the .flt files?

The extension is used by add-on developers for different flight plan formats.

Hi Alex - the .FLT file is for saving the status of a complete flight, as you correctly stated in an old post: 

I don't see that LNM should save .FLT files as it has no way to reproduce the entire state of MSFS at a point in time.

I see. These .flt files (there are other flight plan formats using this extension).
Yes and limitations still apply. Impossible to know all the parameters.🤷‍♂️
