https://forum.pmdg.com/forum/main-forum/general-discussion-news-and-announcements/303794-23jun24-t-2-and-counting-all-systems-go

Captains,

Just a quick check in with you to say hello and let you know that we had a release gateway meeting on 22JUN24/18Z to do a Go/No-Go evaluation on release.

Currently all systems are go for launch of the PMDG 777-300ER on 25JUN24 as previously briefed.

A couple of important briefing points that I want to make you aware of as we roll into release week:

-> WE COULD STILL DELAY RELEASE: This is always our option and I am unafraid to take it if needed. It is not unlike a V1 call when V1 and Rotation speeds are on top of one another. Up to the moment of release, I could still make a decision to put a hold on release if some reason to do so were to present itself. Currently, there is one item we have been working to find/cure since SU15 released- and with help from Asobo, we have beat it into a dark corner- but we are having a hard time confirming that the issue is fully resolved because it is hard to trigger and even harder to track. We are comfortable with the risk factors currently presented and unless some data changes over the next two days, we do not anticipate holding the launch for this issue.

-> OMG SOMEONE SAW SOMETHING NOT QUITE RIGHT ON THE INTERNET We have released the airplane to streamers and also released our testers and consultants from their NDA restrictions against public display. This is an impossibly complex simulation of a highly complex machine- and we fully anticipate there will be some items that need further attention once it releases. We did not place any restrictions on the streamers and they are showing you a good, well rounded look at our work. We are seeing feedback on some items that will be evaluated- and ***as with every PMDG product ever released*** we anticipate a few years of further adaptation, tweaking and tuning based upon any areas we feel may need further attention once the simulation is in the wild. So if something isn't quite perfect- please don't fling yourself off a cliff in grief, or you'll be dead when we issue a fix for it in some weeks... because that is the natural progression for a PMDG product. (It is what you pay for... we don't make one-and-done products- we keep toiling away until it passes our expectations!)

-> WHAT TIME WHAT TIME WHAT TIME WHAT TIME?: I don't know. We'll see how we all feel when we have our normal release day polling for risks and such.

-> HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?: A bit more than a boxed lunch in coach, significantly less than a real 777.

-> WHAT ELSE IS HAPPENING BEHIND THE SCENES?: We are planning one more build to our testers for Sunday evening, then we are done with v2.0. We have a few more gateway meetings as we are constantly bringing in feedback from our testers to ensure we don't leave any stone un-turned looking for trouble. Provided none of the issues brought up have a high risk factor for negatively impacting customer experience, we intend to keep moving things toward launch.

I hope all of you who have attended FSExpo have enjoyed themselves. We are all sorry to have missed out on the fun, As you can probably guess, it was best to have the core of the team static, in position, and able to support the pending release. We had hoped it wouldn't slide into Expo weekend... but here we are. rolleyes.png

Okay- I have more data evaluation to get back to- and some other fun stuff. See you all tomorrow!

The message provides an update on the status of the PMDG 777-300ER release, scheduled for June 25, 2024. Key points include:

  1. Release Status: The project is currently on track, but there's a possibility of delay if issues arise. One minor issue related to SU15 is being monitored closely.

  2. Streamer Feedback: The product has been released to streamers and testers. The development team anticipates some post-release adjustments and improvements based on feedback, which is typical for PMDG products.

  3. Release Details: The exact release time is undecided and will depend on final risk assessments. Pricing is hinted to be affordable, more than a coach meal but much less than a real 777.

  4. Final Preparations: Another test build is planned before the final version is locked. Ongoing feedback from testers will continue to refine the product until launch.

  5. FSExpo Absence: The core team couldn't attend FSExpo to focus on the release.

The author ends by mentioning ongoing data evaluation and more updates to come.

The fact that they do not mention the price before release likely means it‘s quite high, hoping to get a lot of impulse purchases the moment it releases. Wouldn‘t bother being wrong though 🙂

They’ve said repeatedly it’ll be within the same range as the 737.

I really can’t see why it wouldn’t. The days of P3D are over. The scale of this market is much, much bigger and the vast majority of purchasers are going to be people like me who like to dabble in airliners and will buy and be happy with a single variant.

Well the full family of 777 for P3D is around 250$, it might be 20-30 bucks cheaper for the same thing on MSFS.

The 773 might be the same price as the 737-700, but missing cargo and vip variants. That's not such a great deal anymore.

Some sound guru is missing a golden opportunity to simultaneously release a top notch sound set for the 777-300ER this week. As bad as the sounds we are hearing on the streams are (coupled with Mathijs’s admission on one of the streams that the sound set is recycled from P3D) people would happily pay $5 or $10 bucks for a Boris Audio Works level sound set. I think the guy that does them for pmdg must be deaf or something because they sound awful. It’s amazing after 4 years the best pmdg can do is recycle their P3D sounds which were bad then.

with all the hype around this 777 and considering anyone will buy any old tat on ms2020 nowadays, Id say they are about to make a ton of money

They're recycling so much they might win an environmental award 🤣

Honestly, though, I don't remember the sounds as being particularly bad in the FSX version. Quite the opposite, actually. What happened?
Anyway if Boris takes on this project, it's a must have. His soundsets are out of this world.

Onboard sound vs PCI/PCIe soundcards? Windows sound APIs? Drivers?

I think Windows sounded much better in the old days...

Or it means it won't release tomorrow. Giving not at least a 48 hour notice of pricing is unusual.

I feel like Avsim either has borderline panic in the streets about a PMDG release or pure hatred and an-everything-is-the-worst mentality.

Loved their products for years but can't wait for this giant to be released.

Love doing long hauls. Set up, take off, cruise, go do woodworking etc for a few hours, then come back and land. haha

Aircraft sounds is one area i find far better in XP. Granted these are purchased addons, but wow ! everything  comes to life. I think once some dev decides to produce sound packs of that standard in MSFS, will make a fortune, as quite a few at the moment are lacking.

The MSFS audio engine/platform and ability to host a good soundscape implementation is definitely there, as I think the Fenix and FBW aircraft in particular are examples of stellar soundscapes (among others). It's really down to the aircraft developer (including Asobo I guess for some default aircraft).

None of us have heard the sounds on our own PCs - we only have YT and Twitch streams to go by.

I’ll reserve judgement until I have the product installed and hear it on my own system.

according to the boris discord, he claimed that somebody good  (not him) is already working on a sound package to replace the 777 stock sounds.
