But you be negative all day long as much as you want. Whatever that will accomplish in making anything better...

If I'm negative it's only because the sim that I paid for in Aug 2020 has been ruined while people keep telling us to be patient. While I tried being patient over the past 2 years the sim had mostly gotten worse. Placating words will work no longer, results are what matter.

Which is exactly the reason why they decided the limit updrafts earlier. The way Seb answered the Gusts question it seems he is the driving force behind dumbing things down because he thinks adverse weather of that kind would confuse people.

People also ignore that they repeatedly stated that weather to them is one of the THE most important things to get right. They are not blind, they fly themselves and they see what does work and what doesn't. Seb just cautioned that some things may be beyond the scope of what the engine can do (like proper cirrus rendering).

    Hmm, which is it?

While you may not think the weather is better, a lot of VATSIM users do think the weather is much better for them.

Can any VATSIM users here confirm or is this another "most people are happy and not on the forums" wool-over-the-eyes statement.

  3. They were reluctant to restore gusts because it would be too hard. Concerned faces while talking about adding back challenging live weather like it be some inconceivable thing. To me this is the crux of msfs, the people in charge stopping it from becoming as real as it gets. Imagine flight instructors not wanting to teach students about something challenging like gusts as it might be too hard for them to handle or understand. It goes against the very foundation of what a flight simulator is supposed to be. I know I'm going on about this and some may not see it as a big deal, but I feel it's important to be aware of.

Pretty sure they're saying if you find it too strong than change to a preset.

Why didn't they say that before instead of removing gusts and keeping quiet about it?

It took a year of complaints to finally get them to acknowledge and think about putting it back. A year of frustration and people offering up their free time troubleshooting something they thought was a bug meanwhile the devs knew exactly what they did.

This goes further than just gusts. It's the ongoing theme of dumbing down realism and removing features of the sim without warning.

SU10: Live weather wind gusts data will be injected.. when there's no data in METAR then will use other live weather data source(s)...

Interesting choice of words, why not say meteoblue? What happened to them? If they are still around why is METAR gusts not already blended into their forecast model like Seb once told us?

So many contradictions (cough...lies) to keep track of.

so if using live weather, then gusts will be there (if it's too strong in live weather then use weather presets)

this confirms they removed gusts to make it easy #simforsimmers

  6. Remarkable how the sim had REX levels of live weather rendering before SU5 and SU7. Now we have regulars trying to lecture us on the current situation about how we don't understand what Asobo is trying to do. Remember all the talk about morphing terrain and trees? While people were staring at the ground Asobo had their hands on the weather. What are they busy ruining this time with our heads in the clouds?

I'm sure they hinted at the data being, perhaps, simply wrong sometimes, as they mentioned seeking new data partners.

Blame meteoblue, goodbye meteoblue, hello metar and other free alternatives. Sorry about the clouds looking bad now but you must understand home hardware can't handle it.

    All planned from the start.

The maximum model .bin file size that Microsoft say they can accept is 32MB.

Xbox can only accept a 32MB model? I've been led to believe the machine is much powerful for only $500!

As predicted, the console is holding back the sim and forcing developers to sacrifice quality and functionality.

We are fine-tuning the cloud layer system to be more precise and incremental. The layer will be much thinner at sea level and thicker as we go to higher altitudes. The updated system will help better depict a realistic cloud coverage at low altitude.

Why don't you use metroblu like you once did, are they not processing it all including local airport observations and sending you the correct cloud layer heights like you said? Oh right, because they have been or are going to be cut off soon. Now need to build your own in-house weather system based on freely accessible sources to replace all that. Don't worry, you can tell us the truth.

But what can we do about this when the moderators are even locking me out of my own topics and posts....

You can appeal a ban by emailing support@flightsimulator.zendesk.com, but I wouldn't be surprised if the community managers are the same people behind zendesk. The castle is heavily fortified.

Seriously, people want to help make the sim the best it can be. Why must there always be so much politics, deception and other BS involved? I started out having the utmost respect towards MS/Asobo for bringing out this amazing sim. Along the way their actions have ruined it all.

  11. @threegreen I like your optimism, however the weather turned sour after SU7. The post-SU5 cloud visuals is one thing, it's the rest that's the big problem now and only getting worse. Popcorn anyone?

As Seb said during a previous Q&A, metar is being blended by meteoblue before being sent to Asobo. Why is it then so hard for Asobo to ingest and render all of a sudden?

Contradictions like these make it very difficult to know who to believe when the results continue to speak otherwise.

All we hear is soothing talk about how it's all going in the right direction, just give them time. Time to let the money keep on rolling in.

Look at the date of that post, Asobo has since stopped using meteoblue forecasts and metar is king once more. Say goodbye to those realistic scenes they mentioned. They can't let the weather develop by itself cause then people will complain it doesn't match ma metar!

Would be interesting to hear what that guy who enthusiastically explained how it all worked has to say about the sim weather now. Sadly MS most likely gagged them with an NDA.
